Anna University was started in the year 1978 is one of the famous universities in Tamil Nadu known for Technical education. It was named after C N Annadurai the form Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and the main university campus is located at Guindy, Chennai. In 2001 the University became an Affiliating university providing it the right to take all the regional engineering and self financed engineering colleges under its affiliation.

Admissions into the University and its affiliated colleges are done through a Common Entrance examination conducted every year till 2006 through which students are selected into these colleges, later the test has been dropped and now students go through the admission process based on the marks they have procured in their secondary school examinations through ranking and interview process conducted every year.

The university’s main campus is located in Chennai and extends over 185 acres with over 426 self financed engineering colleges affiliated under the university apart from 6 Government colleges and 5 government aided colleges working under it. The university follows a dual semester system and conducts examination twice every year in May and December. UGC have accredited Anna University with Five Star Status in 2002 which is the highest rating and the University continued to maintain its status for further 5 years in the field of Technical education.
